Bishop Arts Theatre Center presents One Year in Egypt
The world premiere of "One Year In Egypt" details the journey of writer and Oak Cliff native, Camika Spencer, during her first time abroad as a middle school ESL teacher in Al Giza, Egypt, during the same year she turned 50. This show is frank, funny, emotional, and informative, as she narrates her personal transformation while deconstructing the myths associated with how she romanticized Africa as a "woke" woman who'd never been to the Motherland - thus a wake-up call.
One Year in Egypt is a brief look at race, colorism, geography, history, sexism, class, and education being brought to the front and dealt with in a wonderful technologically enhanced moment on stage.

Texas Fibroid Awareness Month: Dallas Self-Care Fair
Uterine fibroids are one of the most common health issues facing women of all races. Many women experience symptoms such as significant pelvic pain, increased urinary frequency, anemia, miscarriages, infertility, and heavy bleeding. Despite the commonality of this condition, there is a lack of research funding, and overall awareness for women to talk through treatment options with their physicians.
To encourage women to speak with their OB/GYN about getting an updated screening for uterine fibroids and the best treatment options to protect their health, we are offering a Self-Care Fair. Please join us for giveaways (while supplies last), vendors, screenings, music, games, and fun!
The Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute is coordinating this event with the support of the City of Dallas, Fibroid Institute of Dallas, and community leaders. The event is family-friendly and FREE for guests to attend.

Not Your Average Debrief: Reflective Practice in Nonprofit & Community Work
Oftentimes, we hear about being reflective in our day to day lives. The advice usually comes as “take time for reflection, write in your journal, take 5!” and the list goes on. But how often are we encouraged to take time for reflection in our work. Usually reflection is something that is tried here and there but there is no true intentionality behind the process.
Together, we will discuss a practice that involves building in time to your projects, events, initiatives and experiences, that will bridge thoughtfulness and strategy.
